Corona and 2021 without BOEM

The third edition of BOEM was also supposed to take place at the beginning of February 2021, with the appeal of a festival and with the addition of a workshop to introduce interested professional musicians to spatialisation on a 24-channel acousmonium.

The covid measures forced many cultural organisations to reduce or postpone their activities. The lack of clarity about when Het Bos would reopen meant that BOEM2021 was postponed to April and then again to September. Finally, I received a phone call from my contact person at Het Bos informing me that the uncertainty had become too much for them and that 2021 would be a year without BOEM.

2022 a year *with* BOEM

After the setback in 2021, it appeared that another location had to be found for BOEM. So contact was made with the conservatory in Antwerp, which turned out to be a stroke of luck. In 2022, the Articulate Festival they organise annually would have electronic music as its theme and BOEM would fit in well there. BOEM could take place on Monday October 17, 2022 in the Muziekstudio hall of the Singel

Due to the favourable timing for mounting the sound system, it turned out that a concert could also be organised as early as Sunday October 16. This extra opportunity was taken advantage of to play the work from the pioneering era once again.
